Women's Golf Opens NEC Championships In Fourth

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The first round of the 2017 Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Golf Championship concluded Friday afternoon with LIU Brooklyn sitting in fourth place amongst the seven-team field. The Blackbirds shot a collective 29-over 317 on the LPGA International - Jones Course and are only three strokes out of third place.

All five members of the LIU lineup finished the day in the top 30 of the individual field and three made it into the top 15. Freshman Carolina Ronchel was the top Blackbird finisher in the opening round, carding a five-over 77 to tie for fifth in her first day at a NEC championship. Junior Lauren Rutherglen and freshman Aida Gonzalez were one and two shots behind Ronchel, shooting 6-over 78 (T-8th) and 7-over 79 (T-13th), respectively.

Freshman Rebeca Pardos ended the day tied for 22nd with a first round score of 11-over 83 and sophomore Emma Paschal rounded out the Blackbird group with a 15-over 87, good enough to tie for 30th overall.

LIU is scheduled to begin second round play on Saturday, April 22 with a 9 a.m. tee time.
