DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The 2017 Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Golf Championships concluded Sunday afternoon with LIU Brooklyn placing third overall with a three-day total of 66-over 930 (317-306-307). Three Blackbirds - freshman Carolina Ronchel, junior Lauren Rutherglen, and freshman Aida Gonzalez - finished in the top 18 overall, with Ronchel (7th) and Rutherglen (9th) making the top ten.

The team's overall performance was a major improvement from 2016, when the Blackbirds were seventh at the championships and sported the 21st-best individual as its best finisher.

Playing in her eighth career event, Ronchel recorded her sixth top-10 performance, shooting 10-over 226 for the tournament and lowering her score in every round (77-75-74). Rutherglen's ninth place standing (78-75-76=229 / 13) was her best of the season, besting her T-10th score at the Lonnie Barton Invitational. Gonzalez tied for 12th to give her a second top-15 finish in her first season (also T-10th at Lonnie Barton).

Freshman Rebeca Pardos (83-79-82=244 / 28) and sophomore Emma Paschal (87-88-78=253 / 37) ended the tournament in 26th and T-28th place, respectively.
