STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team rallied to score two goals in the final 50 seconds of the game Sunday afternoon, but it wouldn't be enough to defeat Wagner, as the Seahawks took the win, 14-13. Sophomore Candice Mosal led the Blackbirds in the charge, with three goals and an assists. Senior Jillian May also had a hat trick for LIU.

The game was a close one throughout, as neither team ever led by more than three goals. Two early games for the home team would have the Blackbirds chasing down the lead early on. May was the first to get LIU on the board, scoring an unassisted goal seven minutes into the action, and a minute later, senior Mary McQueen tied it up, 2-2, with her unassisted goal.

From there, LIU and Wagner would trade goals for the rest of the half. Freshman Bianca Santucci had two goals, while senior Jenn Peters, May and Mosal each had goals before the first period expired, and the Blackbirds trailed by one at the half, 8-7.

Wagner's scoring would come in spurts in the second half, as the Seahawks scored back-to-back goals to start the half, going up 10-7. McQueen would keep LIU in the hunt with an unassisted goal ten minutes in, before the home team would score the next three goals to widen the lead to 13-8.

The Blackbirds would stage a late rally, however, scoring all of their goals in the final six minutes of action, and nearly toppling the Seahawks. Senior Tori Shinkowitz would start the spree with a goal off a pass from Mosal. A minute later, Peters had her second goal of the game to make it 13-10. Mosal would score an unassisted goal just 25 seconds later to cut the lead to two, before Wagner would score with a minute left to go up, 14-11.

From there, LIU would score two goals in the final 50 seconds, nearly forcing the overtime period. May would score a goal with 50 seconds left off a pass from Peters, and Mosal added one with 25 seconds remaining. The sophomore would also have two shots on net in the final 12 seconds of the game, but one went wide, and one was saved by Wagner's goalie to clinch the win for the Seahawks, 14-13.

Up next, the Blackbirds host the Pennsylvania contingent of the NEC, for the final weekend of the regular season. LIU will take on Robert Morris, Friday, April 28th at 4 p.m., and Saint Francis U., Sunday, April 30 at 11 a.m.
