NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal deficit to tie the game up, 12-12 with just over six minutes left to play Sunday afternoon at Central Connecticut State, but the Blue Devils would score with two minutes left in the game to steal the win from the Blackbirds, 13-12. Senior Tori Shinkowitz had six goals to lead LIU; with the loss, the Blackbirds move to 2-8 on the season, and 0-2 in Northeast Conference action.

The Blue Devils dominated the first half of the game, going up quickly, 3-0 in the first four minutes of play. Senior Jenn Peters would score a goal to get LIU on the board at the 26-minute mark, but CCSU answered with three quick goals in the span of two minutes to widen the lead to 6-1. Senior Tori Shinkowitz would score twice in the first half for the Blackbirds, but CCSU took the 10-3 lead into the halftime break.

It was a tale of two halves, as LIU came out firing in the second stanza. Shinkowitz would score an unassisted goal just 14 seconds into the start of the half, and added another four minutes later to cut the lead to 10-5. Senior Mary McQueen then went to work, scoring back-to-back-to-back goals of her own to make it 10-8.

CCSU would score twice more to widen the lead to 12-9, but from there, LIU got back in the driver's seat. Freshman Bianca Santucci started the rally with 12 minutes left to play, scoring an unassisted goal to make it 12-10. Shinkowitz added one more just 40 seconds later to put LIU within one, and with six minutes left in the game, Peters scored her second goal of the game to tie it up, 12-12.

The Blackbirds would have three shots in the final minutes of the game, and sophomore goalie Virginia Gibbons would make one of her 11 saves on a free position attempt to keep LIU in the game, but the Blue Devils were able to score a goal with 1:53 to play, taking the lead, 13-12.

The final 90 seconds of play were a flurry for LIU, as both senior Jillian May and junior Sierra O'Connor had shots for the Blackbirds, but CCSU was able to contain the offense and clear the ball as the clock ran down, clinching the 13-12 win.

Up next, the Blackbirds host their first Northeast Conference game on LIU Field, welcoming Sacred Heart to downtown Brooklyn, Friday, April 14 at 12 p.m.
