Ronchel Named To Women's Golf All-NEC Second Team

BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- LIU Brooklyn women's golf freshman Carolina Ronchel has been named to the All-Northeast Conference (NEC) Second Team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

The native of Huelva, Spain was the Blackbirds' best performer during the 2016-17 season. After missing the team's starting lineup in the fall opener at Rutgers, Ronchel played in LIU's remaining eight tournaments and recorded a team-best average of 78.89 over 18 rounds.

Of her eight events, Ronchel finished in the top 15 in all but one, including three top-5 and six top-10 performances. Her best finish of the year came in her second tournament of the year, placing third overall at the St. John's Women's Invitational with an 11-over 155 (80-75).

More than half of her 18 rounds (10) were in the 70s, including a season-best 73 in the second round of the Bethune-Cookman Lady EagleCat Invitational in March. Her efforts in that tournament led to her winning NEC Female Golfer of the Week on March 15.

The honor was the first for the women's golf program since alumnae Cristina Felip and Marisol Doglioli were named to the 2015 All-NEC First and Second Team, respectively.
