2017 LIU Brooklyn Men's Soccer Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer program, under the direction of head coach TJ Kostecky, announced its 2017 schedule Monday afternoon. The 17-match schedule includes eight home games, including four Northeast Conference games against some of the best teams in the league.
The Blackbirds open the season with four straight games on the road, with two-game swings through Michigan and North Carolina. LIU will open the year at Western Michigan on Friday, August 25, before taking on Detroit, Sunday, August 27. The next weekend, the Blackbirds head to take an ACC team, facing off with N.C. State, Friday, September 1. A contest at Appalachian State the following Sunday rounds out the road trip, and LIU comes home for its first contest on LIU Field three days later.
The Blackbirds will open play in downtown Brooklyn hosting NJIT on Wednesday, September 6. Three other non-conference opponents will come to the Bird Cage next season, including Sienna (Sept. 22), Howard (Sept. 24) and Albany (Oct. 3). LIU rounds out non-league play with road games at Rider (Sept. 16) and La Salle (Sept. 27).
NEC action begins on the road for LIU this season, taking on two Connecticut teams to start the season off. The Blackbirds will travel to Sacred Heart on Sunday, October 8 for their first league game of the season, before taking on CCSU on the road, Friday, October 13.
A big weekend at home will be a highlight for the Blackbirds this year, as LIU will host perennial powerhouse Saint Francis U., Friday, October 20, and Robert Morris, Sunday, October 22. Bryant comes to LIU the following weekend, for a contest against the Blackbirds on Friday, October 27. LIU caps the road season at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, October 29, before closing out the year at home.
The Blackbirds will host borough-rival St. Francis Brooklyn in the final home and conference game of the year, welcoming the Terriers to LIU Field for a night game, Friday, November 3 at 6 p.m.
The season culminates with the Northeast Conference Tournament, taking place November 10-12, hosted by the highest seed. The winner of the NEC Championship earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
