BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team has been named one of the inaugural recipients of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) & Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA)'S Mark Laesch Awards. Teams were recognized based on
improvement in adjusted stroke average per individual per round from the 2015-16 to 2016-17 seasons (denoted in parentheses).
The Blackbirds were the WGCA's recipient from Division I with an improvement of 6.7 strokes. LIU joined Regis University from Division II (6.42) and Division III Transylvania University (10.15) as WGCA honorees.
The men's teams honored from the GCAA were: Division I North Dakota State University (2.29), Division II Saginaw Valley State (3.51), Division III Rosemont College (24.07), NAIA Corban (12.72), NJCAA Division I Dodge City CC (0.99), and NJCAA Division II's Southeast CC (4.40).
The awards were named after Mark Laesch, the late founder of Golfstat who passed away in March after battling ALS.
