2017-18 LIU Brooklyn Bowling Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn bowling head coach Kayla Jones has released the 2017-18 competition schedule, which once again features some of the best teams in the nation. The season begins Saturday, October 14.
The Blackbirds will travel to 10 different tournaments across the country, including two Northeast Conference meets, and for the first time in recent history, serve as hosts for the second regular season NEC meet.
"This year's schedule is familiar to us by returning to tournaments we have been to in the past," Jones said. "We're also thrilled to be hosting one of the NEC meets this year. Ours is a packed schedule with good, but very tough, competition. Without a doubt, I believe this group of young ladies can handle it. To be the best, you have to compete against the best. It is going to be exciting, and we are counting down the days until it starts!"
LIU opens the year at Kutztown's annual Bud Whitman Memorial event, October 14-15 in Reading, Pa. From there, the Blackbirds return to the tri-state area to take part in the FDU Jamboree, November 3-5.
Two more tournaments make up November's schedule, with the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic Nov. 10-12, and the UMES Hawk Classic a week later, Nov. 17-19. LIU caps the calendar year taking part in the first Northeast Conference Meet, December 2-3 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The 2018 calendar year kicks off with the Kutztown Invitational, January 19-21 in Reading, Pa., followed by the Stephen F. Austin Jacks Invitational, February 16-18, in Houston, Texas.
In late February, LIU will serve as co-host for the second NEC meet of the year, February 23-25. The Blackbirds, along with Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn, will host the event at Farmingdale Lanes, in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Two more regular season weekends in March wrap up the schedule: The Monmouth Hawk Flight Invitational (March 2-4), and the Vanderbilt Music City Classic (March 16-18).
Postseason play begins March 23-25, when the Blackbirds travel to Howell Lanes, in Howell, N.J., to take part in the Northeast Conference Championship meet. NCAAs follow April 12-14, hosted this year in Clayton, Missouri.
LIU finished last season with a 67-55 overall record, and ranked No. 17 in the nation by the National Tenpin Coaches' Association.
