STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn women's track and field team opened its season at the Fast-Track season opener at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex in Staten Island. Junior Taylor Parker picked up the lone Blackbirds win in the shot put event on Saturday night.
Parker's strong start to the season saw an IC4A qualifying throw of 13.95 meters in her first toss of the day.
In the 60 meter dash, sophomore Michala Webster crossed the finish line with a time of 7.99 to finish ninth overall. Classmate Stephanie Esogenwune ran a time of 8.09 to finish 16th.
In the 400 meter event, junior Angeli Andre ran a personal best time of 59.34 to finish seventh overall. Sophomore Toni Glatz finished in ninth in the event with a time of 59.78.
Freshman Ekenedilichukwu Christine Onyech led the Blackbirds in the 500 meter event with a time of 1:19.70 to finish ninth in the field. Sophomore Tara Hernandez crossed the finish line with a time of 1:20.28 to finish 12th overall.
Also in the field events, Junior Tichina Davis finished eighth in the weight throw with a 11.80 meter toss.
The Blackbirds close out the fall semester at Ocean Breeze for the Seahawk Shoot-Out on Friday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m.
