Men’s Basketball Takes on Terriers Thursday in Battle for Borough Bragging Rights

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Over the next two Thursday nights, the LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team and local rival St. Francis Brooklyn will square off twice, with two chances to determine the best basketball team in Brooklyn. This Thursday, February 15, LIU will travel the 0.7 miles down Fulton Street to take on the Terriers in the Pope Physical Education Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. Next week, the two teams will take part in the annual Battle for Brooklyn at the Steinberg Wellness Center, in a game that will air nationally on ESPN3.
 
NOTES FROM THE NEST
  • LIU had their four-game win streak snapped in the Steinberg Wellness Center Saturday afternoon, as the visiting Robert Morris Colonials beat the Blackbirds, 96-82. RMU shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the victory, including 66.7 percent from three-point range, and hit a season-high team point total to beat LIU. With the defeat, LIU (11-13, 8-6 NEC) moves into a four-way tie for third place in the league standings, with four games left.
  • Joel Hernandez led LIU with 23 points. Sophomore Julian Batts had 18 points and six rebounds, while junior Raiquan Clark had 16 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jashaun Agosto added 10 points and four assists.
  • Last year, LIU swept St. Francis, beating the Terriers, 63-58 at home, and 82-45 on the road in the annual Battle of Brooklyn.
  • Coming into the weekend, SFBK is 11-15, and 8-6 in the league, a part of the four way tie for third place with the Blackbirds.
  • Last weekend. St. Francis beat Robert Morris at home, 77-65, before falling to Saint Francis U., 90-65, in what was almost an exact flip of LIU's results against the two teams.
  • The Terriers have three players averaging in double figures, led by sophomore guard Rasheem Dunn. Dunn leads the team with 14.5 points per game, and also leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.
  • Junior guard Glenn Sanabria adds 12.2 points per game, while freshman guard Jalen Jordan adds 11.5 points per game.
  • Up next, the Blackbirds travel to Staten Island for a rematch with league-leading Wagner, Saturday, February 17 at 4 p.m.
