BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The LIU Brooklyn women's swimming team started the 2018 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championship Meet with a bang Wednesday night, setting two school records in one event at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The abbreviated session consisted of just two events, the 200 medley relay, and the 800 freestyle relay.
The second event was the highlight for the Blackbirds, as freshman
Amanda Peren broke the school record in the 200 free, and the team set a new a new record in the 800 free relay. Peren led off for the Blackbirds, and finished her leg in 1:51.43, breaking the previous record by over a second. She was followed into the pool by junior
Briana Vega, freshman
Jeanne Touchette-McGowan and sophomore
Noemie Lacroix-Moreau, who finished with a time of 7:36.23, also a program record. The time was good for fifth overall.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of
Touchette-McGowan, senior Milly Furneaux, Lacroix-Moreau, and Vega came in at 1:45.47, the best time of the season, and also good for fifth in the the standings.
With two strong relay finishes, the Blackbirds end day one of the meet with 56 team points heading into day two Thursday.
The four-day meet, being held in East Meadow, N.Y., resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., with preliminaries in five events. The finals each day will be held during the night session, beginning at 6:00 p.m. All four days of the 2018 Northeast Conference Swimming & Diving Championships will air live on
