FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -The LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 1-4 on day one of the final NEC meet of the regular season, in Farmingdale, Long Island on Friday. The Blackbirds beat No. 14 Saint Francis U. in the second match of the day, but fell to No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 18 Duquesne, Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn in traditional format. LIU will face Caldwell to complete the first of two sets of round robin matches this weekend on Saturday morning.
LIU was up early in the first match, but fell to Duquesne by ten pins 899-909, with sophomore Tyler Karpinecz and senior Alyssa Balicki posted 200+ scores with a 216 and 211, respectively. In the Blackbirds 909-878 win over the Red Flash, Balicki threw a 211 to lead the squad. LIU lost the next two matches, 904-854 to FDU and 966-883 to SFBK. Junior Kayla Johnson bowled a 201 in the final match of the day, a 961-870 loss to Sacred Heart.
The Blackbirds (5-6 NEC) will begin Saturday with a traditional match against conference foe Caldwell at Farmingdale Lanes at 9:00 a.m. Then after a break on Saturday, the teams will face off with six baker matches (five-game total pinfall) before concluding on Sunday. Those matchups will be determined after the completion of the first round.
