MUSIC CITY CLASSIC DAY 1 RESULTS
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The No. 13 LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 4-1 on the first day, at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee. Highlighting the day were wins over NEC Foe Saint Francis U. and a win over No. 7 Delaware State, as the Blackbirds stand in 13th place with a 186.9 average, heading into traditional play on Saturday.
Day one started off with a very familiar foe for the Blackbirds, No. 16 Saint Francis U for a five game total pinfall baker match. LIU came up with the win, 919-883, behind a veteran lineup of Lauren McKowen, Kristina Genova, Tyler Karpenicz, Kayla Johnson and Alyssa Balicki.
In the team's second match, LIU dropped the most pins of their five Friday baker matches, but fell just short, losing to No. 18 North Carolina A&T, 1013-987. But after that match, the Blackbirds got back on a roll winning the final three matches of the day.
The Blackbirds beat Howard, 866-787 and closed the day with a win over Elmhurst (Ill.), 922-905, but in between those matches was a slim win over top-ten Delaware State, 979-963.
Saturday's action at Smyrna Lanes will feature five traditional matches, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. The Blackbirds will start with a position round match, playing No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, currently in 17th place with a 184.1 scoring average. Then LIU will play four additional traditional matches, The event will concludes on Sunday with a best of seven baker bracketed playoff.
