2018 MUSIC CITY CLASSIC DAY 2 Results
SMYRNA, Tenn. – The No. 13 LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 4-1 for the second straight day at Vanderbilt's Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee. The Blackbirds started the Saturday slate with a win over No. 6 Stephen F. Austin and kept the momentum all day. LIU will enter Sunday's bracketed playoff as the 14th seed after going 8-2 over the first two days of competition.
Playing traditional format bowling on Saturday, the Blackbirds came out of the gate with a 936-893 win over Stephen F. Austin, behind a 238 from sophomore Tyler Karpenicz.
In the second match, the Blackbirds suffered their only defeat of the day, to No. 3 Arkansas State, 987-947, despite three bowlers eclipsing the 200 mark. Senior Alyssa Balicki led the team with a 224, with junior Kayla Johnson and senior Lauren McKowen, had a 203 and 201, respectively.
Up next for LIU was Alabama A&M, and the team cruised to an 886-680 win, before beating another team from the same state, Alabama State, 941-894. The Blackbirds moved to 3-1 on the day behind a 209 from senior Kristina Genova and a 203 by Karpenicz in the latter match.
In the final match on the middle day, a 202 from Genova led the Blackbirds to a 943-830 victory over No. 14 Alabama-Birmingham.
LIU will start bracket play (best 4-of-7 baker matches) with No. 18 North Carolina A&T, who the Blackbirds faced on Friday, in the first match at 8:30 a.m., with two more opponents to follow at the at Smyrna Lanes, just outside of Nashville.
