BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team returns home to LIU Field Friday afternoon, hosting La Salle, Friday, March 23 at 4 p.m. The Blackbirds, winners of three of their last four games, will welcome the Explorers to downtown Brooklyn for their last non-league game before Northeast Conference action begins next week.
LAST TIME OUT
Last week on their spring break swing through the south, LIU went 2-1, with two huge wins before suffering a setback at VCU. The Blackbirds beat Presbyterian, 14-6, and Wofford, 18-5, for two of their highest offensive outputs in recent memory. 11 different Blackbirds scored goals over the three game trip.
NEC HONOREE
Freshman attacker Amanda Masullo was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. It was the first weekly honor of Masullo's career, and the first for the lacrosse team this season.
Masullo led the Blackbirds to a 2-1 week on the road. The freshman accumulated nine goals, two assists and 16 draw controls over the three games. In a 14-6 win over Presbyterian on Tuesday, the freshman attacker scored four goals to go along with seven draw controls. Masullo once again recorded seven draw controls to go along with two caused turnovers, two goals and an assist in an 18-5 victory over Wofford two days later. The Selden, NY native finished up the three-game swing with a hat trick and an assist in a setback to VCU on Sunday.
LEADING LIU
Amanda Masullo is in a three-way tie to lead LIU in goals scored this season, along with her twin sister, Rachel Masullo, and sophomroe Bianca Santucci. The three Blackbirds all have 15 goals so far this season, just ahead of senior Carlie Robinson (11 goals) and freshman Elise Person (10 goals). Dale Cosgrave leads the team in points, however. The redshirt junior has racked up 20 assists so far this season, leading not just LIU, but the entire league, averaging 2.50 assists per game, with nine more assists than her nearest competition. As a team, LIU also leads the league in assists, averaging 5.62 per game.

The Blackbirds begin NEC action on the road, taking on Sacred Heart Friday, April 6 at 4 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn. But then LIU returns home to Brooklyn to start a four-game home stand that will last nearly the whole month of April, beginning with CCSU, Friday April 13 at 4 p.m.
