ALL NEC AWARDS LIST
HOWELL, N.J. - Senior Lauren McKowen earned second team All-NEC honors on Friday, the league announced during the 2018 Northeast Conference Bowling Championships. It marks the third consecutive season that McKowen was recognized. The All-NEC teams were announced after Friday's qualifying rounds at Howell Lanes.
Now a three-time All-NEC performer, McKowen has been the most consistent bowler on a deep LIU squad with a 19.37 pins per frame average, which was fifth best in 18 conference matches during the regular season. She also ranked sixth in the NEC with a 83.1 fill rate and third in both baker average (20.38) and in makeable spares (86.3%).
The native of Tecumseh, Michigan has also has been named NEC Bowler of the Week four times in her three seasons at LIU, after transferring from Central Missouri. She also earned a NEC Prime Performer honor nine times this past season.
As the No. 2 seed in the Championship, the Blackbirds (75-42, 11-7) earned a first-day bye and did not have to qualify on Friday. With two wins in qualifying, Saint Francis U., has now moved into the three spot, then combined with the elimination of defending champion FDU, so the seeds are now set: No. 1 Sacred Heart, No. 2 LIU Brooklyn, No. 3 Saint Francis U. and No. 4 St. Francis Brooklyn. The Blackbirds will now face SFU in a mega match beginning at 8:40 a.m. on Saturday in Howell, N.J., while the other two teams play simultaneously.
