EGG HARBOR, N.J. - The LIU Brooklyn bowling team continued their strong play heading into NEC Championships later this month with a seventh-place finish at the Monmouth Hawk Flight Invitational in Egg Harbor Township in N.J. this weekend, going 2-1 in Sunday's action. Overall, the Blackbirds posted three winning days and held a 10-2 overall mark in the meet.
The Blackbirds (65-39) played their closest rival, St. Francis Brooklyn twice on Sunday, falling in the first match of the day 4-0, but rebounding to take the final match of the day, 4-2. The bracketed playoff is a best 4-of-7 baker match format. In the second match against the Terriers, LIU closed out with a 235-165 game to seal the win.
In the second match of the day, the Blackbirds faced Youngstown State and posted the team's first 200+ baker score of the day, sweeping the match 163-156, 206-175, 152-145 and 181-149.
Junior Kayla Johnson posted the top individual average for the Blackbirds of a 196.0, followed by senior Lauren McKewon with a 192.8 average over her five traditional matches on Saturday. The team finished with a 178.4 scoring average over 64 games in the three days en route to 10 wins against two defeats.

LIU will have a break for the this coming weekend of March 9-11, before traveling to Smyrna, Tennessee - just outside Nashville, for the Vanderbilt Music City Classic, March 16-18.
