Women's Golf | Mar 05 | Ronchel In Second As Women's Golf Opens At Lonnie Barton Story Links Results DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team began its championship spring season on Monday by playing the first round of their host event, the Lonnie Barton Invitational at the LPGA International - Jones Course. Sophomore Carolina Ronchel led the Blackbirds during first round action, shooting a 2-over 74 that was good enough to tie for second place on the individual leaderboard and sit one shot back of leader Yudika Rodriguez of Bethune-Cookman. The 74 also matches the team's second-lowest round of the year, which she produced during the second round of the season-opening Rutgers Invitational. As a team, LIU ended the first round in seventh place out of 13 teams, combining to shoot a 45-over 333. Sophomore Aida Gonzalez made the top-30, shooting a 12-over 84 and tying for 29th. Senior Lauren Rutherglen was the next Blackbird to make the scoring cut, tying for 34th with a round o 14-over 86. Rounding out the scoring was junior Sara Ciliberto, 17-over 89 that left her in a tie for 44th place. Playing as an individual, sophomore Rebeca Pardos tied for 20th after carding a 10-over 82 in the first round.
