DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. --- Sophomore Carolina Ronchel completed the best finish of her young LIU career, taking second place for the LIU Brooklyn women's golf team at the Lonnie Barton Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the LPGA Invitational.
Ronchel held her first round position with a 3-over 75 that gave her a two-round score of 5-over 149. The runner-up ending surpassed a pair of third-place finishes at Dartmouth this season and St. John's last year.
Overall, the Blackbirds tied their best finish of the year (6th place of 13) after putting together a team score of 77-over 653 (333-320). Fairleigh Dickinson won the event at 42-over 618 (311-307).
Sophomore Aida Gonzalez remained in the top 30, moving six spots up into a tie for 23rd after a six-shot improvement in the second round (84-78) to card an 18-over 162. Senior
Lauren Rutherglen also moved up the leaderboard, ending tied for 31st with a total score of 22-over 166 (86-80). Junior
Emma Paschal ended the day fourth in the LIU lineup and tied for 52nd at 33-over 177 (90-87). Fellow junior
Sara Ciliberto wrapped up her tournament 57th at 35-over 179 (89-90).
Playing as an individual, sophomore Rebeca Pardos tied for 17th after shooting a combined 16-over 160 (82-78).
LIU will have a week off before heading to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the William & Mary Women's Kingsmill Intercollegiate from March 19-20.
