SOARING INTO THE WEEKEND
LIU enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-7, and at 0-1 in NEC action, after dropping their NEC opener to Sacred Heart last weekend. Leading the flock for the Blackbirds are sophomore attacker Bianca Santucci (seventh in the NEC in goals per game), and freshmen midfielders Amanda Masullo and Rachel Masullo, who rank 10th and 11th in the NEC in scoring. Complimenting the strike force of Santucci and the Masullo twins is redshirt-junior attacker Dale Cosgrave, who leads the NEC in assists per game, averaging 2.5. Overall in the NEC, LIU is ranked second in assists and points, and third in goals and shot percentage, and has the third lowest turnover rate.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
CCSU enters the weekend with an overall record of 1-9 and 0-1 NEC. The Blue Devils are led by sophomore midfielder Megan Szawlowski, who is ranked fifth in the NEC in both goals and shots per game. CCSU's only victory this season occurred at home in early March, when the Blue Devils beat Hartford, 19-4. CCSU opened the NEC season last week as well, falling to Bryant, 22-3.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-4, and 1-0 in the NEC. The Bulldogs are led by the top two scorers in the NEC, sophomore attacker Caitlin Breglia, who averages 3.6 goals per game to lead the league, and junior attacker Jess Demeo, who's just behind her in the standings with a 3.5 goals per game average. Demeo is also ranked third in the NEC in assists.
Bryant will be a difficult opponent to overcome, as so far this season, they have led the NEC in goals, assists, points, draw controls, shots, shot percentage, and have the fewest turnovers in the league. Bryant opened the NEC season beating CCSU 22-3 last weekend. The Bulldogs will host Sacred Heart Friday in Smithfield, R.I. before they make their way to LIU Field this Sunday.
