DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team completed the first round of the Northeast Conference Championships, at LPGA International, with a fifth place team finish at 50-over, 342, only one stroke behind fourth place Wagner. The three-day event continues on Saturday on the Hills Course in Daytona Beach at 8:00 a.m., before concluding on Sunday.
Individually, junior Lauren Rutherglen leads the Blackbirds with a 7-over 80, followed by sophomore Carolina Ronchel (11-over 84), sophomores
Rebeca Pardos and
Aida Gonzalez each at 16-over (89) and junior
Sara Ciliberto (16-over 91).
After the first round, Ronchel leads the 35-player field in birdies with four, which includes two on par threes, and the Blackbirds as a team stand second with seven birdies. Rutherglen had two birdies, one on the front nine and one on the back, while Pardos scored her birdie on the 18th, to conclude her round on a positive note. Ciliberto had a strong front nine on her round, which included four straight pars on holes two through six.
Fairleigh Dickinson at 25-over leads second place Sacred Heart by five strokes after day one. The NEC Championships are a three-day, 54-hole event. Team scores are calculated by adding a team's four lowest scores from each day. The top ten individual finishers will be named to the NEC All-Tournament team.
