DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team completed the first round in the Northeast Conference Championship on Friday, shooting a 27-over (315) on the Hills Course at the LPGA International to stand in sixth place. The nine-team field in Daytona Beach, Florida will play the second round on Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m., before wrapping up on Sunday morning.
Senior Kyle Maihi led the Blackbirds on day one with a 4-over 76 on the par-72 Hills course. He shot a 1-over 37 on the front nine and had three birdies and nine pars on his round to stand tied for 11th place.
Junior Daniel Reale scored a 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for 20th place. Reale had a team-high 10 pars and one birdie on the par-3 15th hole. His classmate
George Hensby, placed two strokes behind, at 8-over (80) to sit in 23rd place. Freshmen
Manuel Sosa was a stroke behind, at 9-over (81) and in a tie for 27th place. Freshman
Jayden Brown was LIU's final finisher at 15-over, in 42nd place in the field of 45 golfers.
Central Connecticut State leads the Championship at 3-over 291, followed (in order) by Robert Morris, Bryant, Saint Francis U., Fairleigh Dickinson, LIU Brooklyn, Sacred Heart, Wagner and St. Francis Brooklyn. With moving day looming on Saturday, the Knights are six strokes ahead of the Blackbirds, while the Pioneers and the Seahawks sit right behind LIU at 28-over and 30-over, respectively.
