BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- LIU Brooklyn sophomore
Carolina Ronchel has been named to the All-Northeast Conference First Team, the league announced Friday afternoon.
The native of Huelva, Spain has been the Blackbirds' best performer during each of the last two seasons. She was named to the All-NEC second team last year as a freshman. Ronchel is coming off a seventh place individual performance at last week's NEC Championships at LPGA International in Daytona Beach. She played to a 22-over, 241, which was just eight strokes off the lead pace.
This season Ronchel posted the lowest scoring average per round (76.5) on the Blackbirds. She was also named NEC Golfer of the Week twice this season. Ronchel also won her first individual crown at Wagner's Vanessa Picciotto Perrine Tournament in April, leading LIU to the team victory.
Of her ten events this year, Ronchel finished in the top three in five events, six top-10 performances and two more in the top 15. She scored one round under 70 this season, getting a 69 at the Dartmouth Invitational in the fall, and played under 80 in 16 of her 21 competitive rounds for the entire season.
LIU finished the 2017-18 campaign strong with a third place at the NEC Championships. Three Blackbirds, Ronchel, Lauren Rutherglen (T-8th place) and
Rebeca Pardos (T-10th place) each finished in the top ten, as LIU scored a 320 in Sunday's final round to stand at 107-over, 983 for the three-day event.
