STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—The LIU Brooklyn women's track and field team maintained its strong start to the new year at the Gotham Cup on Friday at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Reigning NEC Track Athlete of the Week Eugenie Hue placed first in the 400 meter event with a season best time of 56.20. Hue, the defending NEC Indoor 400 meter champion, hit an ECAC qualifying mark and now ranks first in the NEC this season in the event.
Sophomore Toni Glatz ran an indoor personal best of 58.64 in the 400 meter event for a top-20 finish. Her time ranks eighth in the NEC this season. Senior Cayla Coleman ran an indoor personal best of 58.87 to also finish in the top-20.
Senior Deja Johnson ran a season-best 9.45 in the 60 meter hurdles to place in the top-20. Her time ranks seventh in the NEC. Sophomore Tara Hernandez ran a season-best 9.49 in the 60 meter hurdles. Ekenedilichukwu Christine Onyech ran a personal best time of 26.46 to place 15th in the 200 meter event.
In the field events, junior Taylor Parker finished top-10 in the shot put event with an opening throw of 11.72 meters. Stephanie Esogenwune finished sixth in the long jump with an indoor personal best jump of 5.29 meters.
LIU is back on the track next Saturday, January 26 at the Dr. Sander Invitational in Manhattan.
