BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn women's track & field team garnered a pair of Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field weekly honors on Tuesday. Senior Eugenie Hue was named Track Athlete of The Week and junior Stephanie Esogenwune was named Field Athlete of the Week after their strong performances this past weekend for the Blackbirds.
Hue earned her second NEC accolade of the month after finishing ninth in the 800-meter event at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge this past Saturday. She crossed the finish line with an ECAC mark of 2:11.86. The senior currently leads the conference in the event by nearly five seconds.
Esogenwune recorded a ninth place finish in the triple-jump event for LIU at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge. The junior set a new personal-best in event with a mark of 11.95 meters to place ninth among the competitive field. Her mark also hit an ECAC qualifier and currently leads the NEC in the event.
The Blackbirds open February at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, February 1 at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
