BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn women's track & field team looks poised to defend its title at the 2019 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The two-day meet begins Friday, February 15 at 9:00 a.m. with the preliminary heats in seven events along with trial & finals in four events. Day two on Saturday, February 16 begins at 10:00 a.m. with 10 final events.

RETURNING PERFORMERS
The Blackbirds held off four-time defending champion Sacred Heart last season with 109 points to earn the eighth NEC Indoor Championship in program history. LIU recorded four event wins with Shantae McDonald earning meet MVP and most outstanding performer in sprints after victories in the 60m hurdles and 200m events. Taylor Parker earned most outstanding field performer after a win in the shout put event.
Eugenie Hue claimed the individual title in the 400 meter event. Senior Ashley Blackwell earned a runner up finish in the 200 meter event and contributed 13.5 points on the track. Sophomore Tara Hernandez also finished runner-up in the 500m. Junior Stephanie Esogenwune totaled 12 points in three jumping events last season. All six student-athletes return to lead the Blackbirds title defense.
SCOUTING THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU has enjoyed a strong indoor campaign with seven IC4A qualifying marks in six different events. The Blackbirds also set three new school records this winter.
Four-time NEC Track Athlete of The Week, Eugenie Hue paces the Blackbirds on the track. She leads the conference with the top time in three events. Hue also posted a pair of school records this indoor season. She established a school record with 400 meter time of 54.43 at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational and shattered a school record in the 500 meter that stood since 1998 with a time of 1:12.52 at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships.
Two-time NEC Field Athlete of the Week, Taylor Parker set a new school record in the shot put event besting her previous record of 14.40m set last season. Parker recorded a mark of 14.64 meters at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships to lead the NEC.
LIU currently boasts the top-two times in a pair of events this season. Blackwell and sophomore Toni Glatz rank as the top two in the 200 meter event. Hue and Hernandez boast the top-two marks in the 500 meter event for the Blackbirds.

Entering championship weekend, LIU has 10 athletes hold a top-three time in nine events including seven event leaders.
- 60 meters: Ashley Blackwell, 3rd (6.86); 7.72
- 200 meters: Ashley Blackwell, 1st (24.77); Toni Glatz, 2nd (24.85).
- 400 meters: Eugenie Hue, 1st (54.43).
- 500 meters: Eugenie Hue, 1st (1:12.52); Tara Hernandez, 2nd (1:16.00.
- 800 meters: Eugenie Hue, 1st (2:11.86).
- 4x400 Relay: Angeli Andre, Toni Glatz, Eugenie Hue, Cayla Coleman, 2nd (3:52.08).
- High Jump: Angeli Andre, 1st (1.65m).
- Triple Jump: Stephanie Esogenwune, 1st (11.95m).
- Shot Put: Taylor Parker, 1st (14.64m).
