Women's Track & Field Places Third At NEC Indoor Championships

Senior Eugenie Hue was named most outstanding performer in the distance events with first-place finishes in both the 800 and mile events.  Junior Angeli Andre was named most outstanding performer in the jumping events with her first place finish in the high jump on Friday afternoon.
 
LIU started its day earning 10 points in the 60 meter finals with senior Ashley Blackwell leading the way with a fourth place finish at 7.77 seconds. Sophomores Toni Glatz and Michaela Neils finished sixth and seventh respectively.
 
The Blackbirds continued to rack up points, picking up 12 in the 200-meter finals. Glatz finished fourth with a time of 24.82 seconds, Blackwell finished fifth with a time of 24.90 as both recorded ECAC qualifying marks. Andre recorded a sixth place finish to round out the event. 
 
Andre continued her impressive championship with a third place finish in the 400 meter event with a ECAC mark of 56.90. Glatz earned a fourth place finish with a time of 56.99 and freshman Jasmine Douglas Grant finished seventh as the Blackbirds earned 13 points in the event.
 
LIU would earn nine points in the 500 meters with three runners earning points. Sophomore Tara Hernandez led the way with a third place showing of 1:16.16. Senior Cayla Coleman placed seventh and Ekenedilichukwu Christine Onyechi placed eighth for the Blackbirds.
 
Hue picked up a huge 10 points for the Blackbirds in the 800 meters with a leading time of 2:14.16. She followed that up with a personal-best mile mark of 5:03.13 to earn her second medal of the day.
 
LIU earned nine points between the two relay events on Saturday. The 4x400 team of Coleman, Douglas Grant, Hernandez and Hue placed fourth with a time of 3:53.25. The same group earned a fifth place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:39.28.
 
In Saturday's field events, junior Stephanie Esogenwune placed fourth in the triple jump event with a personal best jump of 5.58 meters. Junior Taylor Parker finished third in the shot put event with a mark of 14.28 meters.
 
Mount St. Mary's claimed the team title with 138 points followed by Fairleigh Dickinson with 105 points. LIU finished third with 98 points. Sacred Heart (67 points), CCSU (63 points), Robert Morris (63 points),  Saint Francis (54 points), Wagner (51 points), Bryant (15 points) and St. Francis Brooklyn (nine points) closed out the competition.
