SINKING SPRING, PA -- The LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 2-2 on Friday in traditional play at the final Northeast Conference regular season meet of the season. The three-day event at Berks Lanes will continue on Saturday as teams finish up traditional bowling, before playing a full cycle of through round robin play in baker format the rest of the way.
In the first match of the day, the Blackbirds fell to No. 20 Sacred Heart, 849-987, as sophomore Kellie Frain threw a 208 to lead the squad. LIU bounced back in the second match, notching a 966-829 win over No. 11 Saint Francis U., before the team had a bye in the third round of matches on Friday. In that match, two more second-year bowlers led the way, as Jennifer Roback scored a 221, while Stephanie Judkins threw a 209 in the win.
After the break, Mount St. Mary's, the newest team in the NEC, beat the Blackbirds, 839-771. Then one last time, the pendulum swung back in the other direction, as LIU beat local rival St. Francis Brooklyn, 983-887, behind a 221 from Frain and a 209 from Roback.
Through the first four matches, Roback leads the squad with a 195.3 average (13th place overall), followed by Frain in 17th place with a 191.8 average.
LIU (41-34) will finish up on Saturday morning with Duquesne (9:00 a.m.) and FDU (10:10 a.m.) before the midway point of the weekend. After the lunch break, teams will play up to three total pinfall baker matches on Saturday, followed by up to four baker matches on Sunday to complete the round robin. For the second round on Sat.-Sun., the teams will be seeded in order of standing after the two completed rounds of play.
