SINKING SPRING, PA -- The LIU Brooklyn bowling team dropped all four Northeast Conference matches at Berks Lanes on Saturday. The Blackbirds concluded the second cycle of round robin play going 2-4 in traditional format in the morning, before starting the final round, total pinfall baker in the afternoon matches. The teams will finish up with four more matches on Sunday to set the seedings for next month's NEC Championships.
The Blackbirds started off Saturday with a 986-1045 loss to No. 23 Duquesne, despite a 234 from sophomore Sarah Florence and a 219 from classmate Kellie Frain in the match. Next up in the morning session was No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson, squeaked out a three-pin win, 973-970 even with a 230 from senior Kayla Johnson and a 204 from sophomore Jennifer Roback. Those results put the Blackbirds tied for fifth position in the league going into the final turn around the league.
The final round of total pinfall baker started for LIU with a rematch against FDU. The Blackbirds went 141-171, 205-212, 156-223, 191-255 and 154-211, falling 847-1072 to the Knights in the match. Last up was No. 11 Saint Francis U. and the Red Flash were up to the task, topping LIU 962-919 (189-160, 166-196, 186-233, 211-235, 167-138) to put the Blackbirds' backs up against the wall tomorrow.
LIU (41-38) will finish up NEC Conference action for the season with four matches on Sunday: Mount St. Mary's, St. Francis Brooklyn, Duquesne and Sacred Heart, as they look to turn it up on the final day.
