BOSTON, Mass.— The LIU Brooklyn women's track & field team competed at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Blackbirds registered four ECAC qualifying marks in the final meet before Northeast Conference Indoor Championships next weekend.
Senior Eugenie Hue led the way for LIU setting a new school record in the 400 meter event. Hue registered a time of 54.43 to finish fourth overall in the competitive field. She bested the previous school indoor record of 54.82 set by Cassandra Jones back in 2017. The three-time NEC Track Athlete of the Week now leads the NEC by nearly two seconds and ranks 55th in the nation in the 400 meter event.
Sophomore Tara Hernandez recorded a personal-best and ECAC qualifying time of 1:16.00 to earn a top-20 finish on Friday afternoon. She currently ranks second in the NEC in the event.
Senior Ashley Blackwell registered an ECAC qualifying time in the 200 meter event with a mark of 24.77 for a new indoor personal best to place 14th overall. Sophomore Toni Glatz also registered an indoor personal-best and ECAC time of 24.85 as she finished 16th in the event. The two standout marks currently pace the Northeast Conference in the 200 meter event.
LIU looks to defend its league crown at the 2019 Northeast Conference Indoor Championships next weekend, February 15-16 at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
