BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn baseball team's game scheduled for Delaware State on Tuesday afternoon has been cancelled due to field conditions. The Blackbirds will now face off against Fairfield tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at LIU Field.
LAST TIME OUT
Inclement weather has put LIU's schedule on hold since the team's return up north after a weekend against ETSU to open the month of March. The Blackbirds were swept in the weekend series (10-3, 7-2, 7-2) by the Buccaneers at Thomas Stadium. LIU has been idle the last 10 days as games against Stony Brook and NJIT have been affected by the weather.
NEC NOTABLES
Junior Jackson Svete is the reigning NEC Pitcher of the Week after picking up the win against No. 9 Georgia. The righty spun 6.0 innings of two-hit ball to earn a 1-0 victory over one of the top-ranked teams in the SEC. Pitching to an 0.83 WHIP, Svete did not permit an extra base hit and struck out five Bulldogs. Following a two-out single in the first inning, the right-hander retired six batters in a row. He also allowed a leadoff single in the fourth inning, but stranded the runner at first base.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
Fairfield comes into Tuesday's matchup 2-7 on the year and is coming off a 2-1 series win over Delaware this past weekend. The Stags were picked to finish sixth in the MAAC by the leagues' coaches in the annual preseason poll.
Infielder Anthony Boselli currently leads the team and the MAAC with a .447 batting average and .500 on base percentage. He has registered 17 hits including four doubles to go along with 10 RBI on the year. Infielder Jack Gethings ranks second on the team with a .317 batting average and 13 hits. He leads Fairfield with eight runs scored and two triples in nine games. Michael Sansone has logged the most innings on the mound thus far for the Stags, hurling 18.0 innings in three starts. He has fanned 16 batters while yielding just one walk on the season.
