STONY BROOK, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn baseball team dropped its midweek tilt at Stony Brook on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-3 at Joe Nathan Field.
LIU was held to just one hit over the first three innings, as senior
Gregory Vaughn Jr. recorded a single in the first. The Seawolves got on the board early with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. Stony Brook added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before adding another run in the bottom of the fifth for a 8-0 advantage.
The Blackbirds showed late life in the top half of the seventh inning with runners on second and third with one out. The Seawolves recorded a strikeout for out number two looking to escape the inning. Senior
Brock Hallum stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-RBI single into right field to get LIU on the board. Stony Brook grabbed one run back on a RBI groundout in the next half inning.
LIU capped the scoring in the ninth as junior
Tim Bechtold recorded the one-out double before advancing to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a RBI groundout by Hallum for the final score of 9-3.
The Blackbirds were outhit 11-6 on the day while getting contributions from its top-six batters in the lineup with a hit. Hallum's three RBI on the afternoon set a new career-high for the senior utility player.

Ryan Neuweiler suffered the loss in the start for LIU, he surrendered three earned runs in three and two thirds innings while striking out four. Senior
Anthony Rupp pitched an inning and a third in relief for the Blackbirds. Long Island native,
Chris Buehler pitched the remaining three innings of relief surrendering one run on two hits while striking out two batters.
UP NEXT
The Blackbirds will start up NEC play this weekend against Sacred Heart. Due to field conditions in Bridgeport the series will shift to Fordham University and Houlihan Park. The series opener is scheduled for Friday, March 15 at 4:00 p.m.
