CHARLOTTE, N.C.— The LIU Brooklyn women's track & field opened its spring slate at the Charlotte 49er Classic this weekend. The Blackbirds picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the field as junior Angeli Andre placed second in the high jump and junior Taylor Parker finished second in the shot put event.
Andre finished just shy of her personal best clearing 1.68 meters on Saturday, the junior currently leads the NEC in the event after opening weekend. Parker started off her spring season strong with an opening throw of 13.22 meters. Junior Stephanie Esogenwune placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 11.71 meters, she currently leads the NEC in the event.
On the track, LIU recorded a pair of top-20 finishes in the 400 meter event. Andre placed 12th, crossing the finish line at 57.54. Sophomore Toni Glatz finished 18th with a time of 58.38.
The Blackbirds also placed ninth in the 4x400 meter relay as the group of senior Ashley Blackwell, sophomore Tara Hernandez, Andre and Glatz crossed the finish line with a time of 3:54.33.
LIU returns to the track in two weeks at the Florida Relays, set for March 28-30 at the University of Florida.
