LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. -- For the second straight day, the LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 3-2 on the day at the Monmouth Hawk Flite Invite in Egg Harbor, N.J. The No. 17 Blackbirds, stand in ninth place in the 18-team field going after Saturday's traditional play, as the look to climb up with a strong performance in Sunday's bracketed playoff.
The Blackbirds started the day with a position round match against their closest rivals, St. Francis Brooklyn. With a 202, sophomore Sarah Florence led LIU to a 937-837 win over the Terriers, to begin the day on a positive note. Next up for LIU was a 956-917 loss to No. 4 Sam Houston State. Next up, the Blackbirds rolled off back-to-back wins against LIU Post, 865-746, behind a 220 from junior Tyler Karpinecz. That match was followed by an 880-676 victory over Bloomfield, as senior Kayla Johnson led the way with a 202. The day ended on a down note with an 884-864 loss to Caldwell.
LIU (49-44) will begin Sunday with a best-of-seven baker matchup against Wilmington, who stands in tenth place, followed by two more matches in the ladder playoff at King Pin Lanes.
