PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— The LIU Brooklyn women's track & field team earned a pair of second place finishes to open competition at the 125th annual Penn Relays on Thursday. Juniors Angeli Andre and Taylor Parker captured runner-up marks against the nation's best respective events at Franklin Field.
Andre garnered second place in the high jump event with a jump of 1.67 meters just missing her outdoor personal-best of 1.68 meters.
Parker followed up her school record performance last weekend in the shot put event by hurling a new school-record and personal best of 14.98 meters to finish runner-up.
LIU's 4x400 team earned a berth in the event finals finishing in the top-nine after qualifying heats on Thursday evening. The relay team of Andre, senior Eugenie Hue, and sophomore Toni Glatz and Tara Hernandez clocked in at 3:40.92 to finish seventh in the qualifying heat.
Hernandez also placed 25th in the 400 meter hurdles event with a time of 1:02.90.
Senior Shantae McDonald and junior Stephanie Esogenwune will represent the Blackbirds in the 100 meter hurdles and triple jump tomorrow at the Penn Relays.
