HARTFORD, Conn.— The LIU Brooklyn baseball team concluded its non-conference and road schedule for the regular season on Tuesday evening with a 16-5 loss to Hartford at Dunkin Donuts Park in downtown Hartford.

LIU looked to jump on the scoreboard first, loading up the bases with one out. The Hawks were able to get a fly out and line out to end the inning.

Hartford responded in the bottom half of the frame with six runs on six hits for the early advantage.

The Blackbirds got a pair of runners on in the top of the third as junior Rob Griswold reached on a fielder's choice and senior Brock Hallum recorded a single to right field. After a strikeout, senior Gregory Vaughn Jr. stepped to the plate and lined a RBI single to center field to get LIU on the board. Back-to-back walks including a RBI walk to senior Edward Modica Jr. brought the score to 6-2.

Hartford added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a three-run home run with one out. The Hawks used a seven run seventh inning on six hits to jump ahead.

LIU scored three runs in the top half of the eighth inning as senior Luiny Monegro recorded a RBI single down the right field line. Senior Joe Mercadante recorded a sacrifice fly and Griswold added a RBI double.

The Blackbirds recorded 11 hits on the evening, with the top-of the order recording multi-hit games. Hallum paced the lineup with three hits and Mercadante along with Griswold recorded two hits apiece. Five different batters contributed a run batted in along with a run scored.
