BROOKLYN, N.Y.— Jackson Svete of the LIU Brooklyn baseball team was named to the All-Northeast Conference second team as a starting pitcher, announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. It is the first time in the junior's career that he has garnered all-conference postseason honors.
Svete paced the Blackbirds's weekend rotation with a 4.57 earned run average, ranking sixth among NEC starters in 2019. The Georgia native held batters to a .261 average on the season, which ranked third among the league leaders. Svete earned NEC Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching six shutout innings in the Blackbirds 1-0 victory over ninth ranked Georgia back on February 26 for the program's first win over a top-10 and SEC school.
The right-hander's best start in NEC play was on April 6 against Mount St. Mary's when he went six and a third innings and fanned a career-high 11 batters. He logged 65 innings and fanned 51 batters in his third season in downtown Brooklyn.
