NEW BRITAIN, Conn.— The LIU Brooklyn women's track & field team opened competition at the 2019 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at CCSU on Saturday. The Blackbirds registered 11 total points on the day, all in the high jump event with while setting qualifying times for Sunday's final events.
Junior Angeli Andre earned the Blackbirds 10 points with an event win in the triple jump. Andre registered an outdoor personal-best mark of 1.73 meters to earn the victory. She has swept the event title in both indoor and outdoor championships this season.
Junior Stephanie Esogenwune recorded an eighth place finish in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.61 meters.
In qualifying events, senior Eugenie Hue set a new meet record in the 800 meter event. Hue clocked in at 20:10.10, nearly six seconds ahead of the second place qualifier to advance to the finals.
Sophomore Tara Hernandez also posted the top qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles for LIU. She registered a personal-best and ECAC qualifying time of 1:01.06.
The Blackbirds recorded a pair of qualifiers for the 100-meter dash finals. Senior Ashley Blackwell picked up the top qualifying time, clocking in at 11.97. Sophomore Michaela Neils placed sixth among qualifiers with a time of 12.11.
LIU then placed three qualifiers for Sunday's 200-meter dash finals. Sophomore Toni Glatz recorded the top qualifying time with a ECAC and personal-best mark of 24.30. Blackwell finished second among qualifiers with a personal-best time and ECAC time of 24.46. Andre closed out the Blackbirds qualifying group in the event, finishing fourth with a time of 24.78.
Andre continued her stellar afternoon posting the second best qualifying time in the 400-meter event. She finished with another ECAC and personal-best time of 56.04. Glatz finished with the fourth fastest qualifying time with a ECAC and personal-best mark of 56.15.
The Blackbirds finished up competition at the NEC Outdoor Championships starting at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 5.
