Complete Release and List of Honorees
Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Northeast Conference announced its Winter Academic Honor Roll on Thursday, which included 23 student-athletes from Long Island University. A total of 588 student-athletes were honored by the NEC, which also announced Scholar-Athlete award winners in each of the six championship sports from the winter season. The league also announced the 137-member Commissioner's Honor Roll, which is comprised of student-athletes who attained at least a 3.75 grade-point-average.
The total number of Academic Honor Roll honorees represented a 7.29 percent increase from the Winter of 2009-10. In order to receive consideration for the list, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 or better GPA and complete at least one year in residence at an NEC institution. The number of Commissioner's Honor Roll members was an 18.1 percent increase from last season.
All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours, maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Long Island had student-athletes from the men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and volleyball squads named to the Academic Honor Roll. Senior
Desiree Conley (women's indoor track and field) was also named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The Scholar-Athlete winners were Kamil Svrdlik (Fairleigh Dickinson) for men's basketball, Samantha Leach (Saint Francis (Pa.)) for women's basketball, Tracy Ganjoin (Fairleigh Dickinson) for women's bowling, Hanna Yttring (Saint Francis (Pa.)) for women's swimming, Kimberly DeLoreto (Sacred Heart) for women's indoor track and field and Bertony Jean-Louis (Sacred Heart) for men's indoor track and field.
