Full Release - 2013-14 NEC-TV Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's basketball teams are prominently featured in this year's Northeast Conference basketball television package, which was announced on Wednesday by the conference. The men's basketball team will have a home game televised on ESPNU, one of three men's contests airing on NEC affiliates, while the women's team will have its contest at Barclays Center against local rival St. Francis Brooklyn on Jan. 11 broadcast on ESPN3.
For the second year in a row, LIU's home game at the Steinberg Wellness Center against Robert Morris will be shown on ESPNU, the worldwide leader of sports' station devoted to college athletics. This year's battle between two of the perennial favorites in the NEC will take place on Feb. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
In addition, the Battle of Brooklyn at Barclays Center on Feb. 16 against St. Francis Brooklyn will be shown live on MSG Network at 4:00 p.m. Last year at the Pope Physical Education Center, the Blackbirds erased a 12-point halftime deficit en route to a 78-68 win. C.J. Garner was named the Lai-Lynch Most Valuable Player after scoring 22 points in the triumph.
The third and final game that the three-time defending NEC champions will be featured in is a road tilt against Bryant on Jan. 23. The contest, which will air live on MSG+ and Fox College Sports, will feature a matchup between senior Jason Brickman and his younger brother Justin, who is a freshman for the Bulldogs. LIU Brooklyn earned a hard-fought 79-78 win in Smithfield, R.I. last season.
LIU Brooklyn's women's team will take on St. Francis Brooklyn on Jan. 11 at 12:00 p.m. at Barclays Center, the billion-dollar arena located blocks away from the LIU campus. The Terriers swept the Blackbirds in both games last season.
This year's NEC-TV slate also features the return of the "wildcard" game. On the final Thursday of the regular season (February 27), one of the following men's matchups with playoff implications will be carried at 7:00 pm on ESPN3: Bryant-St. Francis Brooklyn, CCSU-LIU Brooklyn, FDU-Robert Morris, Mount St. Mary's-Sacred Heart or Saint Francis U-Wagner.
The women's team opens its season on Friday, Nov. 8 against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. at the Steinberg Wellness Center, while the men's team begins its quest for a fourth straight NEC title the following day at Barclays Center against Saint Peter's at 12:00 p.m. All LIU Brooklyn home games this season can be seen live on NEC Front Row (www.necfrontrow.com).
