BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team returns home to the Steinberg Wellness Center for the first time this season as it hosts Norfolk State in a Sunday matinee on Dec. 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
SETTING THE TABLE
• The Blackbirds will look to stop a four-game losing streak that included three straight defeats on the West Coast from Nov. 22-24.
• Junior Landon Atterberry had a strong 2K Sports Classic Irvine Subregional for LIU, averaging 11.0 points per game and shooting 54.2% from the floor.
• Senior point guard Jason Brickman recorded 23 assists over the three games and is now 33 assists from 800 for his career.
• The game against the Spartans begins an 11-day stretch that includes four games, three of which are on the road.
• The Blackbirds are 2-1 all-time against Norfolk State, with the last meeting between the two schools coming in 2011.
• LIU Brooklyn is 16-8 all -time against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schools. The Blackbirds are a perfect 5-0 against Delaware State and hold winning records against Norfolk State (2-1), Howard (2-1) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (3-2).
WEST COAST BLUES
• The Blackbirds suffered through a tough three-game road trip out west from Nov. 22-24.
• LIU dropped contests to UC Irvine, Eastern Washington and Boston University at the 2K Sports Classic Subregional in Irvine, Calif.
• Over the three games, LIU Brooklyn shot just 34.6 percent from the floor and 26.1 percent from three-point range.
• The Blackbirds were also outrebounded in all three contests, but LIU did hold the advantage in free-throws attempted, 71-54.
• The trip was the first for an LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team to California (or the West Coast) since the 1997-98 season.
D.J. DOES JUST FINE vs. EWU
• Sophomore D.J. Griggs came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points in defeat against Eastern Washington on Nov. 23.
• Griggs went 4-for-7 from the floor, connected on a pair of three-pointers and also dished out two assists in 23 minutes of action.
• The 6-0 guard has played in all five games this season and is averaging 4.6 points per contest.
RESERVE FORWARDS SHINE vs. UC IRVINE
• Despite facing a front line that featured a 7-foot-6 center and five players that stood 6-foot-10 or taller, forwards Chris Carter and Glenn Feidanga had career games off the bench for LIU against UC Irvine.
• Feidanga played 25 minutes and scored nine points while pulling down seven rebounds, four of which were offensive.
• Carter also closed with nine points in 14 minutes, shooting 4-for-7 from the field.
