BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn men's basketball freshman Jashaun Agosto has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. It is the first conference awards of the 2016-17 season, and Agosto's first weekly nod as a Blackbird.
Agosto has already emerged as a go-to point producer for the Blackbirds, who come off a 2-1 week with wins over Loyola (MD) and Northeastern. The Seattle, WA product averaged 15.7 points and hit 6-10 shots from outside the arc. He also contributed 2.3 rpg and 2.3 apg for LIU Brooklyn, which is off to a 3-1 start. Agosto scored 12 points in the 65-61 victory over Loyola on Wednesday, then exploded for 18 of his season-best 20 points in the second half as the Blackbirds rallied from 12 down to upend Northeastern on Saturday. He hit three straight three-pointers to kick start the comeback and converted a conventional three-point play with 39 seconds on the clock to give LIU a four-point edge. Agosto finished his week with a team-high 15 points against Boston U on Sunday. He ranks third among NEC freshmen with 12.5 ppg.
