BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Blackbirds return to the Steinberg Wellness Center on Thursday evening for a Northeast Conference men's basketball matchup with Wagner. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. LIU play-by-play announcer Ray Martel will bring you all the action on NEC Front Row.
QUICK HITTERS•The Seahawks are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the NEC with an 8-4 record (15-8 overall), while LIU Brooklyn is tied for seventh at 5-7 but just two games behind fourth place Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart.
•LIU scored 90 points for the third time in the last six games, but could not stop a hot Sacred Heart offense in a 98-90 loss on Feb. 6.
•Four players reached double figures for the Blackbirds, including sophomore
Martin Hermannsson who had 25 points.
•Hermannsson has scored 20 or more in four straight games, the longest streak for an LIU player since C.J. Garner had games of 30, 30, 23 and 31 in March of 2013.
•Junior
Aakim Saintil had 23 points and 11 assists, his first career double-double. Saintil is the first LIU player to have at least 20 points and 10 assists in a game since Jason Brickman had 26 points and 13 assists at Sam Houston State on Dec. 28, 2013.
•Juniors
Jerome Frink (15 points, eight rebounds) and
Joel Hernandez (13 points) were the other two to reach double digits for LIU against SHU. Frink has now had 10 or more points in 18 straight games while Hernandez has a string of seven straight double-figure contests.
•In the prior meeting between the two schools, the Blackbirds defeated Wagner in Staten Island, 71-70, on January 14.
•LIU erased a 13-point halftime deficit and overcame a 17-point lead by the Seahawks in the second half.
•Saintil had 27 points to lead the Blackbirds, while Frink added 17 and
Nura Zanna chipped in with 12.
