BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Pioneers completed the sweep of the LIU Brooklyn baseball team Saturday afternoon on LIU Field, as Sacred Heart shut out the Blackbirds, 5-0 to take their fourth win of the weekend. With the loss, LIU is now 5-15, 0-4 in the Northeast Conference, while Sacred Heart improves to 9-10, 4-0 in the NEC.

LIU had its first chance to score in the top of the second, when junior Harrison Preschel and a one out walk. He stole second and advanced to third when Sacred Heart's defense broke down, putting him in scoring position. But SHU's pitchers were able to get the next two outs, and inning came to an end still knotted at 0-0.

The Pioneers would get on the board in the top of the third inning. LIU had strong defense that kept a runner from scoring from third, but an error extended the inning and scored the first run of the day. A sacrifice fly added one more to the tally, and Sacred Heart was up, 2-0. Another run came on an RBI single in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0, and a single home run in the top of the fifth put the Pioneers up, 4-0. Sacred Heart would add the final run on an RBI single in the top of the eighth, and won by a final score of 5-0.
