SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The LIU Brooklyn baseball team fell to Seton Hall Saturday afternoon, 6-1. With the loss, the Blackbirds are now 9-21 on the season.
Seton Hall got on the board first, scoring single runs in the second and third innings. An RBI double scored the first run of the day, and a throwing error brought a run in from third base to put the Pirates up, 2-0.
LIU got on the board in the top of the fifth frame. Junior
Tommy Jakubowski led off with a single to third, and stole second. He was advanced on a fly out by junior
Harrison Preschel, and scored on freshman
Andy Camilo's sacrifice fly to center field, putting LIU on the board, 2-1.
Seton Hall broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits and two walks, leaving the inning with a 5-1 advantage. The home team added another run in the bottom of the eighth, on a lead-off triple and a sacrifice fly, taking the 6-1 lead, and eventual win.
Sophomore
Cory Hart (2-2) had the loss on the mound for LIU despite a strong outing, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up just one earned run with nine strikeouts. Jakubowski led LIU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Camilo had the Blackbirds' lone RBI.
The two teams conclude the weekend series with a final nine-inning contest, Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
