SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The LIU Brooklyn baseball team improved to 10-21 on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field, beating Seton Hall, 6-3. Freshman starter Anthony Rupp led LIU to the win, pitching 6.2 innings, and giving up just two earned runs, while striking out five.

The Blackbirds got on the board first in the game, when two batters reached on errors with no outs in the top of the second. Freshman Kyle Ruth brought the first run home with an RBI groundout, and junior Anthony Capo made it 2-0 with his single to bring the second run home. In the top of the third, the Blackbirds added another run with an RBI fielder's choice from junior Mark Hernandez.

Seton Hall would score a run in the second frame, and then tied it up in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, a single and three stolen bases, along with an LIU error, scored runs for the home team. With the inning prolonged, an RBI single to right center field tied the game up, 3-3.

LIU scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth. With one out, Ruth had a double to left field, and sophomore Andrew Turner followed that up with another double that would bring Ruth home, and put LIU up, 4-3. The Blackbirds added another run in the top of the eighth, when junior Harrison Preschel scored on a wild pitch, and the sixth and final run of the game scored in the top of the ninth, when a sacrifice fly from senior Brian Lamboy would score Charles Misiano, and LIU clinched the win, 6-3.

Freshman Anthony Rupp had the win for LIU, giving up just two runs in his 6.2 innings of work. Freshman Mike Kreiger and junior Nick Freijomil were clutch coming out of the bullpen, as the two relievers combined to pitch 2.0 hitless innings. Freijomil earned his third save of the season for his work in the ninth.

Sophomore Andrew Turner led LIU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior Harrison Preschel went 1-for-4 with two runs scored, while Brian Lamboy, Mark Hernandez, Kyle Ruth and Anthony Capo had RBIs for the Blackbirds.

Up next, LIU hosts Hofstra, Wednesday, April 20 at 3 p.m. on LIU Field.
