BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's indoor track and field team has been picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

LIU was given a pair of first place votes en route to its runner-up preseason prediction. Last year, the Blackbirds finished second overall. Despite being one of the smallest teams in the field, the LIU women put up one of the highest point totals of the weekend at the 2017 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Blackbirds finished second, with 109.5 points behind Sacred Heart.

The Pioneers were chosen as the preseason favorite with seven first-place votes, while Central Connecticut grabbed the final first-place vote, and was picked third overall. The remaining order of ten-team poll saw Fairleigh Dickinson & Mount St. Mary's round out the top five and Saint Francis U., Robert Morris, Wagner, Bryant, and St.Francis Brooklyn taking positions six through ten.

The Northeast Conference Championship meet is scheduled for February 16 & 17, 2018 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.

The Blackbirds will resume action this weekend with a pair meets St. John's Bill Ward Meet on Thursday, December 7 in Long Island and the Wagner Seahawk Shootout on Friday, December 8 in Staten Island.
