SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The LIU Brooklyn baseball team led the Bulldogs through the end of seven innings Sunday afternoon, before Bryant rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning to score four runs and steal the win from the Blackbirds, 13-11. With the win, the Bulldogs took their third win of the four game series, and the Blackbirds moved to 11-17 on the season, and 3-8 in Northeast Conference action.

The game was a pitchers' duel early on, with just two combined hits through four innings of play. LIU broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. A single by senior Harrison Preschel loaded the bases, and freshman Joe Curcio came to the plate. His single to center field, along with a Bryant error, would score three runs for LIU. Sophomore Andrew Smith came to the plate next, and used a single to bring Curcio home and put LIU on top, 4-0.

Bryant would score two runs in the bottom of the frame on a triple, but sophomore Edward Modica Jr. would hit a lead-off home run to start the fifth inning, and Curcio would use another RBI single up the middle to score another run, putting the Blackbirds on top, 6-2.

But the home team would answer back in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs on two hits and three walks to tie it up, 6-6.

LIU's bats were able to answer in the next inning. After sophomore Luis Arias de los Santos had a lead off double and senior Charles Misiano walked, sophomore Joe Mercadante would hit a single to left field that brought home both Blackbirds. With two outs, junior Andrew Turner then added two more runs to the pile with his home run to left center field that put LIU on top once more, 10-6.

Curcio would make it 11-6 with his home run in the top of the seventh, but the home team would score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to two, 11-9.

Bryant then rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning. A two-run homer would tie the game up, and two outs later, a double to left center field would score two more runs, putting the Bulldogs up, 13-11. Bryant's bullpen would get three straight Blackbird batters out in the top of the ninth, clinching the team win for the Bulldogs, 13-11, and the series victory.

Up next, the Blackbirds play a mid-week non-conference game at Manhattan, Wednesday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m., before returning to LIU Field to host Mount St. Mary's, Friday April 21 through Sunday, April 23.
