BROOKLYN, N.Y. Freshman Stephanie Esogenwune has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Track and Field Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The native of Pretoria, South Africa was the Blackbirds' top performer at last weekend's Metropolitan Outdoor Championships in New Jersey. Esogenwune finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 38-2.75 (11.65m) - currently the second best mark in the NEC. Esogenwune also owns the Northeast Conference's top triple jump mark (11.78m), which she set at the season-opening Miami Hurricane Invitational on March 17.

Esogenwune joins teammates Kareem Roberts (Week 2 Men's Field Athlete) and Shantae McDonald (Week 2 Women's Track Athlete) as NEC Weekly award winners this outdoor season.
