BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team opens its Northeast Conference season on the road this weekend, heading north to take on Bryant, Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m., and Central Connecticut State, Sunday April 9 at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
An early second half surge by the River Hawks powered the University of Massachusetts Lowell past the LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team, 12-8. The Blackbirds, led by senior Jenn Peters who scored five goals, led at the half, 5-4, but UMass Lowell would score five goals in the first eight minutes of the half to take control of the contest and hand LIU its sixth loss of the season.
LEADING LIU
The Blackbirds stack up well statistically heading into league action. LIU currently ranks second in the NEC in caused turnovers per game (12.75). The Blackbirds are also third in the conference in goals per game (11.38), assists per game (4.62), ground balls per game (22.12), total points per game (16.00) and shot percentage (.421).
Senior Jenn Peters leads the team and is second in the league with 3.00 goals per game (24 total), while junior Sierra O'Conner also ranks in the NEC in ground balls per game (5th – 3.38) and caused turnovers per game (5th- 2.50).
Two LIU seniors are chasing spots in the record books as they start the second half of the season. Peters is just six goals away from becoming the all time program leader in goals scored (with 179 so far), while classmate Mary McQueen scored her 101st career goal at UMass Lowell. McQueen needs just three more goals to move into fourth all-time on the program list.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant enters Friday's league opener with a 4-4 overall record. The Bulldogs most recently, fell to UMass Lowell in overtime, 10-9.
Sophomore Jess DeMeo leads the team with 19 goals and six assists, while freshman Caitlin Breglia has 12 goals and five assists. Bulldog goalie Samantha Santeramo leads the NEC in goals against average (8.38), and is second in save percentage (.518) and third in saves per game (8.43).
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
CCSU has just one win so far this season, standing at 1-8 overall. The Blue Devils open the NEC season at Sacred Heart Friday.
Senior midfielder Marissa Soto, who has a team-high 21 goals, leads CCSU. Freshman midfielder Megan Szawlowski is the team's top point scorer, as she is second on the squad with 14 goals, and has a team and NEC-high 15 assists. She also leads the team with 22 draw controls. Goalie Jackie Branthover has an NEC high 95 saves this season, and a .434 save percentage, third best in the NEC. She leads the NEC with a 10.56 saves per game average.
